Postdoctoral Positions (Available)
A full-time postdoctoral position is immediately available in the Ton-That lab at UCLA. A successful candidate will investigate the assembly mechanism of outer membrane organelles and their role in bacterial virulence.
Candidates should have a strong background in microbiology and/or biochemistry or related fields; experience with cryo-electron tomography is preferred. Candidate must have a recent doctorate degree (PhD, MD, or DDS) with an excellent record of publications. Salary is commensurate with experience. Initial appointment is one year, and continued employment is contingent upon candidate’s performance and availability of funding. Postdocs are encouraged to seek their own funding, and US citizens and permanent residents are eligible to many NIH-funded fellowships and research training programs at UCLA. To apply, please send via email an application that includes a detailed CV, a statement of research interests, and the contact information of three referees to Dr. Hung Ton-That, [email protected].

Graduate Student Researchers
If you are interested in training opportunities as Graduate Student Researchers to investigate the molecular mechanisms of bacterial pathogenicity, please contact us for further details.
Thesis projects will be centered on three major NIH-funded projects, which include “Virulence determinants of Fusobacterium nucleatum”, “Molecular assembly on the cell surface of Gram-positive bacteria”, and “Post-translocational protein folding in Gram-positive bacteria”. The lab employs a multidisciplinary approach that combines genetics, molecular biology, fluorescence microscopy, electron microscopy, X-ray crystallography, biophysics, mass spectrometry, and various biochemical methods, as well as cell-based assays and rodent models of infection, hence providing a rich training environment. Many funding opportunities (extramural/intramural fellowships and research training grants) are available to eligible graduate students.
